On the banks of the Susquehanna, as US 1 crosses over
the Conowingo Dam, you will view the beautiful Conowingo Lake to
the north. Crossing the Susquehanna River brings you to Harford
County, a pastoral area dotted with farms and small towns.
Beginning your tour at the town of Darlington, travel
west on US 1 and turn north on State Route 136. Just below the Pennsylvania
State line, you will reach the town of Whiteford.
From here, take Rt. 165 Southwest to the heart of
inland Northern Harford County. Passing through Pylesville, you
will come to Jarrettsville. Turning Southeast on Rt 23, travel to
the town of Forest Hill.
Still traveling Southeast, take Rt. 24 to the County
Seat of Bel Air. A short detour 5 miles east, will allow for a stop
at Churchville. Retracing your steps back to Bel Air, you will find
US Highway 1. Travel southwest to the town of Fallston, then turn
south on Rt 152 to US Route 40.
A short ride West on Route 40, you can visit Joppatowne,
on the east side of the Little Gunpowder. Traveling eastward again
along the Route 40 corridor, you will pass through the towns of
Edgewood, Abingdon, Belcamp/Riverside, and Aberdeen, ending your
tour at Havre de Grace, where the Susquehanna meets the Chesapeake
Bay.
